How does the ScoopFree Crystal Classic work?
Your cat uses the litter box as usual. The system then takes care of raking solid waste away.
- Your cat uses the traySensors recognise when your cat is in the litter box.
- The 20-minute countdown beginsAfter your cat leaves, the timer starts. If your cat returns during the countdown, it stops and resets after they leave again.
- The rake clears solid wasteWaste moves into the covered compartment. The crystal litter absorbs liquid waste.

How long does a litter tray last?
PetSafe provides the following replacement guide for the Crystal Classic.
These are estimates. Check the tray regularly and replace it sooner when needed. Humidity, usage and your cat's habits can reduce tray life. Occasionally stirring the exposed crystals can help distribute moisture; do not mix waste from the covered compartment back into the litter.
Things to consider before buying
Kitten precaution
For kittens under six months, leave the litter box unplugged and scoop waste manually until they are at least six months old.
Choose a dry location
Position near a power point in a dry area with good airflow. Humid bathrooms and laundries can shorten tray life.
Allow room to access
Check the 70.1 cm × 48.51 cm footprint and leave space for your cat to enter and for you to change trays.
Introduce it gradually
Place it beside the existing litter box and leave it unplugged initially. Give your cat time to adjust before using automatic cleaning.

Can I use normal clumping litter?
No. The Crystal Classic is designed for ScoopFree crystal litter. Clay or clumping litter can interfere with operation and damage the system.
Can more than one cat use it?
Yes. The Classic suits single or multi-cat households. Expect to replace the tray more frequently as usage increases, and continue providing enough litter boxes for your cats.
Does it still need cleaning?
Yes. Automatic raking reduces daily scooping, but the tray still needs replacing and the unit needs periodic cleaning. PetSafe recommends monthly cleaning of the frame, rake and sensors. Unplug it before cleaning and follow the operation guide.
Does it come with litter?
Yes. One disposable litter tray and crystal litter are included. Ongoing replacement trays are purchased separately from our ScoopFree litter tray range.
How is the Classic different from the Crystal Pro?
